Carey Willetts

Songwriter, producer

I’ve been making music professionally since 2001, when I started out as a founding member of Athlete. We signed to Parlophone, released five albums over the next decade, picked up an Ivor Novello Award and had a pretty incredible run along the way. Our debut, Vehicles and Animals, was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, and our second album, Tourist, went to number one.

Since then, I’ve moved into songwriting and production, working with a whole range of artists and picking up three more number one albums along the way. I was also shortlisted for Breakthrough Producer of the Year.

I’ve worked closely with Dermot Kennedy, co-writing and producing tracks including Better Days, Turnstiles, Stockholm and Lost. Other recent and past collaborations include Freya Ridings, Asha Banks, Kingfishr, Benjamin Steer and Tom Speight, among many others.

At the heart of it, I’m still driven by the same thing that got me started: making great music with great people.
